Qeysariyya — the memory of the covered bazaar
A stopping place for Silk Road caravans, the heart of Ordubad's trade — the historic place that inspired our brand.
In the centre of Ordubad, beneath the plane trees, stands the Qeysariyya, a covered bazaar building dating from the XVII century. With its octagonal dome, brick arches and central pool, this building was a stopping place for Silk Road caravans and the heart of the town's trade. Its name comes from "Caesar", the title of the Roman emperors — the name given to the most prestigious trading place in Eastern bazaars.
Here, as much as silk and spices, Ordubad's own bounty was bought and sold: dried apricots, raisins, walnuts, rosewater and jams. Merchants came from Tabriz, Tiflis and Istanbul and carried the harvest of Ordubad's orchards back to their own cities.
The name Ordubad Bazar and the geometry of our monogram are inspired by the dome plan of the Qeysariyya. We are the continuation of that bazaar — except that today the chest takes the place of the caravan, and your table takes the place of the bazaar.
